Maryville NP clinical hours: 750 in every track
Every Maryville nurse practitioner concentration has carried 750 clinical hours since Spring 2024, completed across three practicum courses of 3 credits each. If you were admitted in Fall 2023 or earlier, you may still be on the older curriculum, where track totals ran from 580 to 850 hours. Maryville does not publish how the 750 hours divide between the three courses; your syllabus sets each course's target.

The 750-hour rule and who it covers
The 2026-27 Maryville catalog states that, effective Spring 2024, all five NP concentrations contain 750 clinical hours. The five are Family (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP), Psychiatric-Mental Health (PMHNP) and Pediatric Primary Care (PNP). The catalog gives the reason in the same passage: certification standards are changing, and the extra hours prepare students to meet them.
The rule reaches beyond the MSN. The catalog's post-master's certificate pages repeat the same sentence, and the DNP-NP and BSN-to-DNP paths use the same NP practicums, so a concentration's 750 hours travel with it whichever degree you are in. The post-master's DNP, which carries no NP concentration, is different: it lists no practicum courses and no hour total, and its work runs through the DNP project courses instead.
The wording is not new. The 2024-25 and 2025-26 catalogs carry the same sentence, so the 750 figure has held for three catalog years.
Practicum courses by track
Each current concentration has exactly three practicum courses, each worth 3 credits, and none of their catalog descriptions states an hour count. Several also exist in a "C" version with the same title, credits and description. Maryville does not explain the suffix, so register for whichever version your program plan lists.

Post-master's certificate students take the same three practicums as MSN students in their concentration, and so do DNP-NP and BSN-to-DNP students. Each track name in the table links to its own course page with titles, prerequisites and settings.
If you were admitted in Fall 2023 or earlier
Students admitted Fall 2023 and before stay in the curriculum they started under. The catalog lets them move to the 750-hour version by notifying the Office of Academic Records, but nothing moves on its own.
The older totals come from a Maryville webinar posted in September 2023, which gave each track its own count: 580 hours for AGPCNP, 745 for FNP and PMHNP, 830 for AGACNP and 850 for PNP. The presenters described post-master's certificate hours as very similar. For anyone on the current curriculum those numbers are history, so rely on them only if your program plan still shows the older version.
Switching also changes course lists, not just totals. The catalog says AGPCNP students starting in Spring 2024 or later also take NURS 626 and NURS 627C, and PNP students starting then also take NURS 655C. Before you opt in, ask your advisor how the move changes your practicums, your hours and your graduation term, so you don't line up a preceptor for a course that isn't on your plan.
What Maryville does not publish
Maryville publishes one hour figure per track and nothing below it. No catalog description, program page, online curriculum, blog post or webinar we have found gives the hours for an individual practicum. The per-course split to plan around is the one your own syllabus sets.
Two numbers circulate anyway. A Maryville blog post from August 2023, written before the current AGPCNP and PNP curricula, said the practicums "call for between 200 and 250 hours of clinical work" without saying whether that meant each course. And a third-party website ties 215 clinical hours to NURS 665, which the catalog lists as a didactic PMHNP course. Treat the first as out of date and the second as unverified.
Also missing from public pages: any minimum for direct patient care, population splits for the FNP and PNP tracks, and limits on telehealth or simulation hours. Your course's hour target belongs in its Canvas syllabus or the login-only Graduate Nursing Clinical Resource Center. If neither says, ask the Maryville Online Clinical Team.
Don't divide 750 by three and book clinic days around the answer. Get your course's own target from its syllabus or the Online Clinical Team first.
Hours that do not count
Reaching 750 depends on which hours count as much as on how many you schedule. Maryville's published rules rule out three kinds of time.
- Paid work time. A 2023 Maryville webinar said hours you are paid for can't count as clinical hours, and hours done at work can't count toward clinical in another setting. You can't be on the clock during a practicum shift.
- Time before approval. Maryville requires four approvals before clinical starts: your compliance record in Exxat, the approved site and preceptor request, clearance from the site itself and your course faculty's sign-off. Time spent at a site before all four are in place isn't clinical time.
- Time while out of compliance. If an Exxat compliance item lapses, the placement goes On Hold, and a June 2026 Maryville article says any hours done while out of compliance have to be redone.
How hours are recorded has also shifted. Older Maryville guides describe eValue time logs, with preceptors emailed every 7 days to approve them; a 2026 article says a locked Exxat account blocks logging hours or patients, which points to Exxat now. Planning 750 hours against the calendar
Hours only build once a practicum is open and approved, so the calendar matters as much as the total. Maryville opens Exxat to students roughly three to four months ahead of their first clinical term, and no site and preceptor request can go in before then. The clinical timeline puts each step in order.
Course length shapes your weekly load. Another 2023 Maryville webinar said clinical and concentration courses ran in 16-week sessions, but current program pages don't state a term length, so check the dates on your course in Canvas before you promise a preceptor a schedule.
A preceptor deciding whether to say yes will want to know how many days a week you need. Until your syllabus gives the course's target, share the track total, the term dates and the fact that Maryville sets the per-course figure, and ask whether they can flex if the target turns out higher than you expected. That conversation is easier before the term than in week six.

Questions Maryville students ask
Do Maryville post-master's certificate students need 750 clinical hours?
Yes, on the current curriculum. The catalog's certificate pages carry the same 750-hour sentence as the MSN. A 2023 Maryville webinar added that practicing NPs adding a second specialty still complete the hours, though the experience may be tailored to them. A gap analysis can shorten the coursework, but Maryville doesn't say it reduces clinical hours.
How many practice hours does the Maryville DNP require?
Maryville doesn't publish a figure. The post-master's DNP lists no practicum courses; its work centers on a scholarly project through Clinical Inquiry I to III. A Maryville blog post puts the usual DNP requirement at 500 or more practice hours, but it is describing DNP programs in general, not setting Maryville's rule. DNP-NP and BSN-to-DNP students still complete their concentration's 750 NP clinical hours.
Do telehealth or simulation hours count toward Maryville's 750?
Maryville hasn't published a rule either way. No public page sets limits on telehealth, simulation or virtual hours for its NP practicums. Your course syllabus and the Graduate Nursing Clinical Resource Center are the places to check, and course faculty approve every placement, so raise a telehealth site with them before you rely on it.
Are there clinical hours in NURS 612 Advanced Health Assessment?
It has a clinical component. Maryville's help center says students in NURS 612 can begin its clinical in week 5 of the semester once every approval is in. The number of hours isn't published, and Maryville doesn't say whether they count toward the 750, so plan them separately and check the course syllabus.
Why do some Maryville practicum numbers end in C?
The 2026-27 catalog lists most practicums as a plain number or a C version, such as NURS 621 or NURS 621C. The two share a title, 3 credits and a description, and the catalog doesn't explain the difference. Some, including NURS 627C and NURS 655C, appear only with the C. Follow the number on your program plan.
