Maryville AGPCNP practicums: NURS 621, 624 and 627C

The AGPCNP practicum sequence

Each practicum has a didactic course beside it, and the six together make the 18-credit concentration within a 47-credit MSN. The catalog assigns no hours to any single course; the table shows what it does say.

The catalog lists NURS 627C only by its C number, while the first two practicums appear in both forms. Those first two are the same courses FNP students take, and our FNP practicums page looks at them from the family side.

What the Spring 2024 change did to AGPCNP

No Maryville NP track changed more. A 2023 Maryville webinar described AGPCNP with 580 clinical hours over three semesters, the lowest total of the five tracks. The catalog now shows NURS 620, NURS 621, NURS 623 and NURS 624 as the original 12 credits, with a note that Spring 2024 starters and later also take NURS 626 and NURS 627C. That added pair arrived in the same term as the 750-hour rule.

Anyone admitted in Fall 2023 or before stays on the older plan unless they tell the Office of Academic Records they want the new one. Look for NURS 627C on your program plan before you ask a preceptor to hold a third term for you.

The DNP-NP concentration list follows the same pattern: 12 AGPCNP credits, plus NURS 626 and NURS 627C for Spring 2024 starters. The clinical hours page compares all five tracks, old and new.

The adult primary care site and preceptor

Maryville's MSN page describes AGPCNP as care for patients 13 and older, and the practicum descriptions keep returning to adult patients whose chronic and acute problems are managed in primary care. In 2023, Maryville told applicants that AGPCNP placements, like FNP and pediatric ones, must be in primary or preventive care, with hospitalist work left to the acute care track.

That points to a primary care practice with a steady adult and older-adult panel, such as an internal medicine or adult primary care office. The preceptor needs board certification as an APRN, MD or DO, an unencumbered license in their state and a minimum of one year in practice. A separate 2023 Maryville webinar said AGPCNP students may stay with one preceptor across terms, which suits a clinic that can host you for all three practicums.

Proving the credentials is your job. Older Maryville guides asked students to find the preceptor's license and board certification online and upload them, noting that for an NP a Nursys lookup can show both. A preceptor without board certification needs an approved Preceptor Exception Form.

Four approvals before each AGPCNP practicum

Maryville's help center lists four approvals that all have to be in place before a clinical day. Work through them for NURS 621, then again for NURS 624 and NURS 627C.

1. Compliance approved in ExxatPhysical exam, immunizations, TB testing, AHA BLS, health insurance card, background check and drug screen, all current. You'll get into Exxat roughly three to four months before the first clinical term, so start uploading then.
2. Site and preceptor request approvedSubmit it in Exxat under the course wishlist, then watch View Details for its status and any reviewer comments. Upload a Preceptor Exception Form, if you need one, to My Request.
3. Site clearanceThe clinic's education department or manager clears you. Some sites run their own onboarding, which never replaces Maryville's approval.
4. Course faculty approvalThe fourth approval comes from your course faculty. Keep your first clinic day unbooked until it arrives.

Employer clinics and state limits

If you already work in adult care, your employer's clinic can be an option. A 2023 Maryville webinar set the conditions: no conflict with your present role, and no clinical time while you're on the clock, since paid hours don't count. Maryville's 2026 preceptor guidance also excludes anyone above or below you in your reporting line, anyone you work beside directly and anyone who rates your performance. Location matters as well. Maryville's June 2026 licensure grids mark AGPCNP "Does not meet" in both New York and Louisiana, and you need an unencumbered RN license in whichever state you see patients. A 2020-era status page, still online, says Washington residents can't enroll in Maryville's online nursing programs, while the 2026 grid marks Washington "Meets".
