Maryville NP clinicals in Wisconsin: confirm the Board approval first

Maryville's June 2026 licensure grids mark Wisconsin “Meets” for all five NP tracks. Wisconsin adds a step the grids don't address: Wis. Admin. Code N 1.06 requires Wisconsin Board of Nursing approval for schools of nursing based in other states, and that includes graduate programs. Nothing in our research confirms whether Maryville holds that approval, so ask Maryville before you count on Wisconsin hours.

Open on the grids, with a Wisconsin condition

On the licensure question alone, Wisconsin is open. Maryville's four June 2026 grids (MSN, post-master's certificate, DNP-NP, BSN-to-DNP) rate it “Meets” for all five NP concentrations, and nothing on the 2020 status page restricts Wisconsin.

Wisconsin's own rule sits alongside that. The grids describe Maryville's programs; N 1.06 sets the approval requirements Wisconsin applies to out-of-state schools of nursing. Both have to line up before a Wisconsin placement makes sense.

What Wisconsin's out-of-state rule says

The Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) put out a revised Form 3067-OEE on April 13, 2026. According to it, N 1.06 is where Wisconsin sets out what schools of nursing based in other states need for approval, and those schools “must be approved by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing.” Its scope runs from practical nurse programs through RN programs at the associate, bachelor's and graduate levels, with post-licensure bachelor's programs named as well.

Approval isn't one-time. DSPS also requires approved out-of-state schools to file a self-evaluation report for continued approval on Form 3069OEE. Per the same form, anyone teaching or precepting clinicals in Wisconsin, faculty and preceptors alike, has to carry one of two credentials: a privilege to practice in Wisconsin, or a Wisconsin license.

Our research does not show whether Maryville is approved under N 1.06. Settle it with the Maryville Online Clinical Team before any Wisconsin preceptor commits to you.

Wisconsin's new APRN law and your preceptor

AANP counts Wisconsin as reduced practice, meaning each NP keeps a collaborative relationship with a physician. It also flags September 1, 2026 as the effective date of the APRN Modernization Act. That law, 2025 Wisconsin Act 17, has DSPS licensing APRNs in four roles (NP, CRNA, CNS and CNM), while the APNP licenses already on file were switched over to APRN. An APRN who wants to practice with no collaborating physician must apply separately and get the Board's approval.

For your search, the law changes titles more than eligibility. A preceptor whose paperwork still says APNP holds a license DSPS has converted, and Maryville's standard hasn't moved: a board-certified APRN, MD or DO who has practiced for a year or longer, plus LCSW, PsychD or PhD psychology preceptors for PMHNP. Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay and Appleton

Census 2025 estimates put Milwaukee-Waukesha at about 1.58 million people, Madison at about 710,000, Green Bay at about 337,000 and Appleton at about 250,000. UW Health and Froedtert ThedaCare Health are among the large systems, as are Aspirus Health, Ascension Wisconsin and Aurora Health Care, which is part of Advocate Health. They show where NP students look, not places that take Maryville students.

Parts of Wisconsin also sit inside the Minneapolis-St. Paul and Duluth metros. A site on the Minnesota side means Minnesota's rules, and Minnesota isn't in the compact; see our Minnesota page. We found no Wisconsin preceptor incentive, and Maryville doesn't pay preceptors.

Is Maryville approved by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing?

That's a question our research couldn't settle. Wisconsin's Form 3067-OEE says out-of-state schools of nursing must be approved under N 1.06, and approved schools file a Form 3069OEE self-evaluation to keep that approval. Ask the Maryville Online Clinical Team directly, naming your track and start term, and keep their reply with your placement records.

Does Wisconsin's approval rule reach Maryville's RN-to-BSN?

The form's scope includes post-licensure bachelor's programs, the category an RN-to-BSN falls into. If your NURS 416 Public Health Capstone includes clinical experiences with a Wisconsin agency, raise the N 1.06 question with Maryville just as an NP student would, before the agency sets a start date.

Can my Wisconsin preceptor practice on another state's license?

Per Wisconsin's form, a preceptor needs a license from Wisconsin or else a privilege to practice there. The APRN Compact isn't operating yet, so there's no multistate route for an NP's advanced practice authority. Ask your preceptor to confirm their Wisconsin credential, and upload it with the board certification Maryville requires.

Does Wisconsin's 2026 APRN law change who can precept me?

Not for Maryville's purposes. Since September 1, 2026, DSPS licenses APRNs in four roles and has converted APNP licenses to APRN; independent practice needs separate Board approval. Maryville's bar is the same as before: a board-certified APRN, MD or DO, a year or more in practice, independent or not.
