For Oregon, whether Maryville's sources conflict depends on your concentration. The pattern is identical across Maryville's four NP program grids.

FNP and AGPCNP students get the same answer from both. If you're in acute care, pediatrics or psychiatric-mental health, ask Maryville which statement governs your enrollment, and keep the reply with your records.

What Oregon's board asks of out-of-state NP programs

Very little at the approval stage. Do out-of-state APRN education programs need the Board's approval to place students in Oregon? “No,” says the APRN FAQ published by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. The Board's notification requirement for out-of-state programs applies to pre-licensure PN and RN programs, and advanced practice programs, it says, are not required to notify.

That wasn't always so. A former Oregon rule required prior Board authorization before NP students from non-Oregon graduate programs could do clinical practicums in the state; it was repealed effective July 1, 2021. Maryville's status page was last modified in September 2020, before that repeal. Whether the repeal explains the newer grids is for Maryville to say, one more reason to ask.

Two conditions remain. OSBN requires an active Oregon nursing license of any faculty who teach in Oregon. It also says an institution has to meet NC-SARA or Higher Education Coordinating Commission authorization requirements ahead of enrolling Oregon students. Maryville's 2020 page says it takes part in NC-SARA.

Oregon sits outside the compact

Oregon is a non-compact state, with no Nurse Licensure Compact legislation pending. As a result, a multistate license from Missouri, Washington or anywhere else won't cover patient care in Oregon. Maryville wants an unencumbered RN license valid where you see patients, which for an Oregon clinic means an Oregon RN license. Apply before your Exxat access opens, not after, so the license isn't what holds up an approved placement. Oregon hasn't enacted the APRN Compact either. See RN license for clinicals.

Practice environment and where to look

AANP rates Oregon full practice. An Oregon NP with board certification, an unencumbered license and a year of experience fits Maryville's APRN, MD or DO rule, and PMHNP students can also consider an LCSW, PsychD or PhD psychologist; see preceptor requirements.
