Maryville NP clinicals in Idaho: open, compact and full practice
All five Maryville NP tracks are open in Idaho on the June 2026 grids. Idaho is a Nurse Licensure Compact state and a full-practice state in AANP's ratings. Its Board has nothing specific on how out-of-state programs place students, and when the curriculum calls for it, one Idaho rule lets an RN in an accredited APRN program practice as an APRN.

Which Maryville tracks you can finish from Idaho
All of them. Every NP row for Idaho reads “Meets” on Maryville's four June 2026 grids: MSN, post-master's certificate, DNP-NP and BSN-to-DNP. Maryville's 2020 status page restricts Oregon and Washington, Idaho's western neighbors (the 2026 grids don't), but says nothing about Idaho.

Idaho's Board and out-of-state programs
The Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses houses Idaho's Board of Nursing. Two sources govern approval for in-state nursing education programs, Idaho Code 54-1406 and IDAPA 24.34.01.150 in the Board's rules, and neither one specifically addresses clinical placements arranged by schools from other states. On its web page for online and out-of-state programs, the Board asks schools based elsewhere to reach its licensing staff to learn the requirements.
That contact is Maryville's to make, not yours. If an Idaho site asks whether Maryville is cleared to place you, route the question to the Maryville Online Clinical Team; see out-of-state clinicals.
Students are addressed directly in two places. Under Idaho's student-APRN rule, IDAPA 24.34.01.100.12.a, APRN-level practice is permitted for an RN whose Idaho license or privilege is current and who is enrolled in a nationally accredited APRN program, provided the curriculum makes that practice integral. There's also a licensure exemption in Idaho Code 54-1412 for students in approved nursing education programs, limited to functions incident to their formal instruction.
Full practice and Idaho's preceptor-level policy
AANP rates Idaho full practice, with no condition recorded in our research, so Idaho NPs practice without a physician agreement. Independent NP practices are a realistic place to ask, provided the NP clears Maryville's bar of board certification, a clean license and a year or more in practice, and isn't a relative, boss, coworker or your own clinician.
HP-BON-Education 1, a Board education policy adopted April 10, 2024, applies to clinical preceptors in all nursing programs: each preceptor's license must match or exceed the level the student is working toward. An Idaho NP in your population plainly meets that. If your preceptor is an MD or DO, or an LCSW or psychologist for PMHNP hours, ask Maryville how the policy is read. Licensing: compact holders are covered
January 19, 2018 is Idaho's Nurse Licensure Compact implementation date. Hold an unencumbered multistate license from another member state, and you have a privilege to practice in Idaho; that lines up with the “license or privilege” wording in the student-APRN rule and with Maryville's demand for a license valid where your patients are. Coming from Oregon, which isn't in the compact, or another non-member state on a single-state license? Then you'll need an Idaho license. Idaho hasn't enacted the APRN Compact. Boise to Idaho Falls: where NP students look
About 864,000 people live in the Boise City metro, Idaho's largest, according to the Census Bureau's 2025 estimate; Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Falls and Twin Falls come next. NP students tend to look at large systems, among them St. Luke's Health System, Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene, and Saint Alphonsus Health System. We're not saying any of them takes Maryville students.

Questions Maryville students ask
Can I do Idaho clinicals on a Utah multistate license?
For licensing, yes, as long as it's unencumbered. January 2018 is when both states implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact, and the Idaho student-APRN rule speaks of an RN holding a current Idaho license or a privilege to practice. Maryville still wants a license valid where you see patients, and your site and preceptor must clear Maryville's four approvals in Exxat.
Does Idaho require Maryville to get Board approval before my clinicals?
No specific provision requires it. Idaho Code 54-1406, like the Board's own rules, is written for programs offered inside Idaho and doesn't specifically address clinical placements from other states. On its web page, the Board asks schools based outside Idaho to contact its licensing staff about requirements. Our research doesn't show whether Maryville has done that, so ask the Maryville Online Clinical Team before you settle on an Idaho clinic.
Can a physician precept my Maryville FNP rotation in Boise?
Physicians can precept for Maryville if board certified and a year into practice, and FNP hours belong in primary or preventive care under Maryville's 2023 guidance. Idaho's 2024 Board education policy wants preceptors licensed at the student's target level or above. Our research doesn't record how the Board applies that to physicians precepting NP students, so ask Maryville first.
Am I practicing as an NP during Idaho clinicals before I'm certified?
Within limits, yes. The permission comes from IDAPA 24.34.01.100.12.a. You need a current Idaho RN license or a privilege to practice, you must be matriculated in an APRN program with national accreditation, and the APRN-level practice has to be an integral part of that program's APRN curriculum. Because the permission hangs on the curriculum, it reaches your practicum work, not a job outside it.
