Maryville immunization requirements for clinicals, and where the current list lives

The list in Maryville's catalog

The School of Nursing section of Maryville's 2026–27 catalog lists the immunizations, or titers, you must have before required clinicals. It is the most recent public version of the list. Maryville's welcome page for admitted students says instructions for submitting immunizations, with the background check and drug screen, arrive by Maryville email the semester before your first clinical.

• MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
• Tdap
• Polio series
• Varicella, by titer or vaccine
• Hepatitis B series, or a declination
• Flu vaccine, every year

Immunizations are one compliance item among several. The physical, BLS, background check and drug screen are on clinical compliance, and the TB test, which people often file with vaccines, has its own rules on physical exam and TB. The catalog also notes that some sites may require COVID vaccination, covered further down.

Titers: what counts and what doesn't

The catalog accepts immunizations or titers, but only a titer that shows immunity helps you. Maryville's Ask Maryville article on rejected titers says negative titers for MMR, polio or varicella are not accepted, and the vaccine is required instead.

A history of the disease doesn't count either, according to the same article. If you had chickenpox as a child, that isn't proof of immunity for Maryville; you need a varicella titer showing immunity, or the vaccine.

The article dates from 2021, so check the wording on your Exxat item, but it is Maryville's only public statement on titers. If you're relying on old titers, find the lab reports now. A negative result means booking vaccine appointments, and a series takes more than one visit.

Tdap, not Td

Tetanus boosters are another common rejection. Maryville's Ask Maryville article on the question says Td is not the same as Tdap, so a recent Td shot on its own won't satisfy the Tdap item.

Check your record for the exact vaccine name. If it just says “tetanus”, ask the clinic that gave it which vaccine it was, because Maryville treats Td and Tdap as different vaccines and the reviewer can only go by what the record shows.

Maryville's university-wide immunization policy, covered below, asks health-professions students for Tdap within 10 years. The clinical list in the catalog doesn't give an interval, so if your Tdap is older than that, ask before relying on it.

Hepatitis B and the yearly flu vaccine

Hepatitis B is the one item with a formal opt-out. The catalog asks for the hepatitis B series or a declination. Maryville's public pages don't show the declination form, so look for it in Exxat or the Resource Center rather than writing your own.

A declination satisfies Maryville's list, but it doesn't bind a clinical site, which runs its own clearance as part of the third approval. If you decline, ask each site whether that works for them before you count on it.

The flu vaccine is annual, which makes it a renewal item like the TB test. Maryville's public pages don't say which date Exxat treats as the end of a flu season, so check the item's status each fall. A lapsed item puts your Exxat account on hold, and hours logged during a hold must be repeated.

The campus immunization policy is a different document

You may come across Maryville's university Immunization Policy on Ask Maryville, revised November 2024. It is written for health-professions students in general and lists MMR (two doses), Tdap within 10 years, varicella, MCV (meningococcal) and a yearly flu vaccine.

The same policy tells health-professions students to request religious or medical exemptions through a Maryville Health/Wellness Portal and upload the paperwork to CastleBranch. It then says online graduate nursing students should follow the Clinical Resource Center instead. Treat the MCV line and the portal route as uncertain for your program, and confirm them there.

What sites add

Maryville's list is what Maryville checks. The clinical site checks its own list as part of the third approval, clearance from its education department or manager, and the two lists don't always match.

The catalog notes that some sites may require COVID vaccination. It isn't on Maryville's own list, so whether you need it depends on the site. SSM Health's student policy, reviewed May 2026, lists MMR, varicella, hepatitis B, flu and Tdap if required among the records the school keeps.

Ask for a site's immunization requirements in writing as soon as it agrees to take you, and compare them with what is already approved in Exxat. Where the current list lives

The catalog is public, but it isn't the only version, and the items in your own Exxat account are the ones you are measured against. Four places are worth checking.

• Your Exxat Compliance module: the items your account actually needs, with a rejection note when something is wrong.
• The Graduate Nursing Clinical Resource Center: login-only, updated each semester according to Maryville, and it covers compliance and immunizations.
• The catalog's “Health and Other Special Requirements”: the public version, updated by catalog year.
• Ask Maryville: articles on common rejections, such as negative titers and Td versus Tdap.
