Our research turned up no Florida rule making out-of-state graduate NP programs obtain Board approval before they place students here. Florida on Maryville's grids

Florida has no Maryville limit on any NP track in any format: MSN, post-master's certificate, DNP-NP or BSN-to-DNP. The 2020 status page doesn't list Florida either. What changes by track is who can precept you.

Every preceptor must also be board certified and have a year of experience, plus an unencumbered license in the state where they practice; at a Florida clinic, that's a Florida license. Details are on preceptor requirements.

No Florida approval step for graduate programs that we found

Section 464.019 of the Florida Statutes, the state's program-approval law, is aimed at institutions that want to offer pre-licensure nursing education in Florida, and the Florida Board of Nursing says its role is to approve pre-licensure programs. We found no Florida provision that makes an out-of-state graduate or APRN program seek Board approval, or give the Board notice, before it places students. That's the absence of a rule we could find, not a ruling, so if a site asks, pass it to the Maryville Online Clinical Team.

Florida sites still run their own processes. A health system may set onboarding steps before your first day, and Maryville keeps an Onboarding Request Form for sites on its onboarding list; see onboarding requests. Site onboarding never replaces Maryville's approval.

Protocols, practice and the TEACH program

Florida is restricted practice in AANP's ratings. Some Florida NPs have to maintain a physician protocol agreement for their whole career, although exemptions may apply. An NP preceptor working under a physician protocol still fits Maryville's rule if board certified and a year into practice.

Under section 409.91256, the Agency for Health Care Administration runs a state program called the Training, Education, and Clinicals in Health (TEACH) Funding Program. It reimburses qualified facilities, among them rural health clinics, FQHCs and community mental health centers, for primary care clinical hours spent with APRN students. It pays facilities rather than preceptors, depends on appropriation and requires Florida-licensed preceptors. The statute limits reimbursement to students in accredited Florida-based programs, so hosting a Maryville student earns the clinic nothing under it. Be plain about that if a community clinic asks.

License and where to search in Florida

Since January 19, 2018, Florida has been an active Nurse Licensure Compact state, so a Florida clinical can run on an unencumbered multistate license from whichever compact state is your home. Florida hasn't enacted the APRN Compact. If you're relocating, see RN license for clinicals.

By 2025 Census Bureau estimates, Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach leads at about 6.4 million residents; Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford and Jacksonville come next. UF Health, BayCare Health System, AdventHealth, Baptist Health South Florida and HCA Florida Healthcare are among the large systems. Use them as a map of where to look, not as a list of sites that host Maryville students.

Do out-of-state NP programs need Florida Board of Nursing approval?

Not under any Florida provision our research found. Section 464.019 governs pre-licensure programs, and we found nothing that obliges an out-of-state graduate or APRN program to seek approval or notify the Board before students are placed. Maryville's own four approvals, from compliance through course faculty, still have to clear before you start.

Can a Florida community health center get TEACH funding for hosting me?

Not for a Maryville student. TEACH reimburses qualified facilities for clinical hours with students from accredited Florida-based programs, and it's subject to appropriation, with payments capped per facility each year. The statute is set to be repealed on July 1, 2034. It pays facilities, not preceptors, and Maryville says it doesn't pay preceptors either.

When should my search for a Florida preceptor begin?

Your clock is Maryville's, not Florida's, since we found no Florida approval step for graduate programs. Exxat opens to you roughly three to four months before clinicals begin, and nothing starts until all four approvals are in. Have a willing preceptor lined up by then, with extra time if the site runs its own onboarding.

Can I do Maryville PMHNP clinicals in Florida?

Yes, on Maryville's June 2026 grids, which mark Florida “Meets” for PMHNP in every program format. Maryville's 2026 guidance allows an LCSW, PsychD or PhD psychologist alongside APRN, MD and DO preceptors. Older guidance tied the prescribing side to psychiatric prescribers. A Florida PMHNP working under a physician protocol can still qualify.
