Every Maryville NP track is open in Colorado

Colorado carries no Maryville restriction. Whichever program you're in (MSN, post-master's certificate, DNP-NP or BSN-to-DNP), the June 2026 grid gives Colorado “Meets” in each NP row, and the 2020 state authorization status page, which singles out New York, Louisiana, Oregon and Washington, never mentions Colorado.

Each concentration carries 750 clinical hours over those three practicums. Maryville doesn't publish the per-course split, so check Canvas before you offer a Colorado preceptor a schedule.

What the Colorado Board asks of out-of-state NP programs

Nothing that our research found in its rules. The Colorado State Board of Nursing handles program approval in 3 CCR 716-1 Rule 1.2, which defines a nursing education program narrowly: a basic course of study for people seeking their first RN or LPN license. The rule doesn't ask a graduate or APRN program from another state to seek approval or to give notice before its students train in Colorado.

Full practice, with a mentorship condition on prescribing

AANP rates Colorado full practice: NPs there don't need a physician supervision or collaboration agreement to see patients. The one condition concerns prescribing: before a Colorado NP can hold prescriptive authority, they attest that they've logged 750 hours of experience under a mentoring agreement with a physician or an APRN. That figure is the NP's own mentored practice and has nothing to do with the 750 clinical hours in your Maryville curriculum.

For your search, full practice means a Colorado NP who runs a practice can host you on their own license. It doesn't lower Maryville's bar, which asks for an APRN, MD or DO who holds board certification and a clean license and has practiced for a year or more. Maryville says PAs and CRNAs don't typically qualify, while PMHNP students may add an LCSW, PsychD or PhD psychologist. A preceptor without board certification needs an approved Preceptor Exception Form.

The preceptor tax credit stops at the state line

The state does have a preceptor incentive, but it won't reach yours. Under Colorado's Rural and Frontier Health Care Preceptor Tax Credit, an unpaid preceptor in a rural or frontier shortage area can take a credit on Colorado income tax. Advanced practice nurses are eligible, and HB22-1005 widened eligibility to registered nurses and to other licensed professionals in outpatient settings.

The same bill lifted the annual cap to 300 preceptors, kept the credit going for tax years that begin before January 1, 2033, and tied eligibility to the student's school: it has to be a Colorado college or university with accreditation. Maryville is in St. Louis, Missouri, so on that wording your Colorado preceptor couldn't claim the credit for your rotation. Maryville also says it doesn't pay preceptors, so clarity is what your request has to rely on; preceptor outreach covers what to send.

Your license, and where Colorado NP students search

Colorado's compact membership dates to January 19, 2018, when it implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact. That lets you train here on a clean multistate license from any other compact state. With a single-state license issued outside the compact, you'd need a Colorado license instead, since Maryville requires a valid license for the state your patients are in.
