Maryville NP clinicals in Oklahoma: three Board conditions and a preceptor credit

Maryville's June 2026 grids mark Oklahoma “Meets” for all five NP concentrations, in the certificate, MSN, BSN-to-DNP and DNP-NP grids alike. Oklahoma was not on the older 2020 status page's list of restricted states.

Restricted practice and what it means for preceptors

AANP puts Oklahoma in its restricted-practice group. Prescriptive authority requires a written statement that documents physician supervision, a requirement lasting 6,240 hours, and Oklahoma NPs can't prescribe Schedule II drugs. An Oklahoma NP preceptor's prescribing will reflect those limits, which is worth knowing if you're tracking pharmacology experience.

Who can precept you is Maryville's call. It takes board-certified APRNs, MDs and DOs with unencumbered licenses and at least a year of practice, and widens the list for PMHNP students to LCSWs and PsychD or PhD psychologists. See preceptor requirements.

The Board's three conditions for out-of-state APRN students

Oklahoma's rule, OAC 485:10-5-12, requires prior Board permission for out-of-state programs that lead to initial licensure. Maryville's NP programs don't; you're already an RN. Subsection (c) covers RNs enrolled in an out-of-state APRN program: they may complete Oklahoma clinicals and preceptorships with no permission step, provided that:

• your license to practice registered nursing in Oklahoma is unencumbered
• whoever oversees the clinical component as faculty has an unencumbered Oklahoma license, at the level being taught or higher
• the program satisfies the Oklahoma Board's APRN education requirements

The second and third points sit with Maryville, and our sources don't show how Maryville meets them. The first sits with you. According to Oklahoma's Board, holding a multistate license lets a nurse practice in other compact states with no additional licenses; confirm with Maryville that your multistate license satisfies this rule for Oklahoma clinicals.

A preceptor tax credit that includes APRN students

HB 3351 created the Oklahoma Preceptor Tax Credit Program in 2024. Eligible preceptors are APRNs, PAs, MDs and DOs licensed in Oklahoma who deliver primary care in the state and who take on APRN or PA students, medical students or residents. Each rotation counts as 160 aggregate hours; a preceptor may claim as many as 10 rotations per calendar year, and credits go out first come, first served while funding lasts.

The Oklahoma Health Care Workforce Training Commission runs the program and says 2026 applications are open. The Oklahoma Tax Commission calls the credit nonrefundable, lets it carry forward up to five years, and applies it to tax years 2026 through 2035. Our sources don't say the student must attend an Oklahoma school, so a preceptor should confirm with the Commission that a Maryville rotation counts. The program is tied to primary care services, which suits FNP, AGPCNP and PNP rotations more naturally than acute care ones.

Oklahoma City, Tulsa and beyond

Oklahoma City and Tulsa are the two big metros, with Lawton and Enid well behind. The large systems include OU Health, INTEGRIS Health and Saint Francis Health System, along with Hillcrest HealthCare System and SSM Health St. Anthony. They are where NP students tend to search; confirm with the system and Maryville before counting on one.

Your RN license in Oklahoma

Oklahoma's Board started issuing multistate licenses on January 19, 2018, the date the state implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact.
