Arkansas is “Meets” for FNP, AGPCNP, AGACNP, PMHNP and PNP on every June 2026 licensure grid that leads to NP licensure. It wasn't among the states Maryville's older 2020 status page restricted.

Physician agreements behind Arkansas NP preceptors

AANP classifies Arkansas as a reduced-practice state. At least one element of NP practice stays under a regulated physician agreement, and certain medications can be prescribed only under a physician protocol agreement. When you interview an Arkansas NP, ask what their protocol covers, since that shapes the prescribing you'll see.

Maryville's own rule sets the bar for approval: a board-certified APRN, MD or DO who has practiced for a year or more and holds an unencumbered license in their practice state. PAs don't typically qualify. The full list, including PMHNP options, is on preceptor requirements.

Arkansas rules for out-of-state programs

Nothing in the Arkansas Board's rules or guidance that we reviewed makes out-of-state programs obtain approval ahead of clinical-only placements. The prelicensure standards at 17 CAR Part 125 apply to an out-of-state institution only if it establishes a new program in Arkansas, and such a program needs national accreditation plus approval from both the Division of Higher Education and its home-state board. For APRN programs, 17 CAR Part 123, Subpart 10, works through “deemed status” based on national accreditation. We did not confirm any of this with Board staff.

The student exemption in the Nurse Practice Act covers students in programs approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. Maryville's programs aren't described that way in our sources, so plan to practice on your own RN license rather than rely on the exemption. Licensing, plus the Fort Smith and Memphis borders

The Nurse Licensure Compact is written into the state's Nurse Practice Act, and Arkansas implemented it on January 19, 2018. Holding a multistate license issued by Missouri or another compact state satisfies Maryville's rule that your license be valid where you see patients. The APRN Compact has not been enacted in Arkansas.

Little Rock, northwest Arkansas, Fort Smith and Jonesboro

Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway and Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers are the two largest metros, followed by Fort Smith and Jonesboro. Large systems include Mercy, UAMS Health, CHI St. Vincent (part of CommonSpirit), Arkansas Children's and Baptist Health in Little Rock. They show where NP students typically search; none has agreed to accept Maryville students.

Mercy runs Mercy Hospital Fort Smith and Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas. Its published student process asks you to secure a Mercy preceptor first, then apply for an Individual Learning Experience 3 weeks to 60 days before the start date, and it needs an Academic Affiliation Agreement between the school and that Mercy facility.
