Maryville NP clinicals in Ohio and the APRN supervision clause

All five NP tracks are open in Ohio

Ohio carries no restriction for any Maryville NP track. Each of Maryville's four June 2026 grids (MSN, post-master's certificate, DNP-NP and BSN-to-DNP) gives Ohio a “Meets” in every NP column. The 2020 status page, still live and naming only New York, Louisiana, Oregon and Washington, says nothing about Ohio.

Ohio law, not a Board filing, covers your clinical

The Ohio Revised Code, as we read it, contains no step in which out-of-state programs get approved by or notify the Ohio Board of Nursing. What it has is ORC 4723.32, which exempts certain students from Ohio licensure. Division (F) reaches APRN students practicing under their program's auspices, provided the program either qualifies them to sit for an approved national certification exam or leads to a qualifying master's or doctoral degree.

That exemption carries a condition worth reading closely. The student must be acting “under the supervision of an advanced practice registered nurse,” and that APRN must be a faculty member, teaching assistant or preceptor for the program. Whether Maryville owes the Ohio Department of Higher Education anything is a question for Maryville, so treat the Online Clinical Team's answer as the final word.

Choosing a preceptor Maryville and Ohio both accept

AANP rates Ohio as reduced practice. Throughout their career, an Ohio NP maintains a standard care arrangement with a collaborating podiatrist or physician, and their Schedule II prescribing has limits that depend on the setting. Neither fact stops an Ohio NP from precepting you.

Maryville's list: APRNs, MDs and DOs who are board certified, licensed without encumbrance in their state and past their first year of practice; for PMHNP it adds LCSW, PsychD and PhD psychology preceptors. Because Ohio's exemption names an APRN as the supervisor, a board-certified Ohio NP fits both texts most cleanly. See preceptor requirements.

A compact license has covered Ohio since 2023

Ohio became an active compact member on January 1, 2023. If your home state is also a member and your multistate license is unencumbered, it covers Ohio clinical hours, which is what Maryville's license-where-you-see-patients rule requires. The Ohio Board publishes reporting on nurses who work in Ohio on multistate licenses issued by other states.
