Maryville NP clinicals in Louisiana: the FNP track is the open one

Which Maryville tracks Louisiana allows

The answer turns on your concentration, not your degree. Whichever of Maryville's four NP program grids you check, all dated June 2026, Louisiana gets the same treatment.

Here the old and new sources agree. Maryville's State Authorization Status page, last modified in 2020, says it can accept Louisiana students only into the FNP program. If you're set on psychiatric, pediatric or adult-gerontology practice in Louisiana, Maryville's NP grids don't offer that route. FNP students should read FNP preceptors alongside this page.

Louisiana's approval rule for out-of-state programs

LAC 46:XLVII.3539 covers nursing programs administered from another state, graduate programs among them. Such a program can't offer Louisiana courses or clinical experiences until the Louisiana State Board of Nursing approves it. At least six months ahead of the start, the program submits a request letter that names each clinical agency and unit. The letter goes in with a packet: faculty qualification forms, a clinical facility survey form, the catalog, syllabi and curriculum, and pass data on licensing and certification exams.

The Board also expects the program to hold approval in its home state, regional accreditation, and a national nursing accreditation it recognizes. A grant of approval is good for up to three years; renewal is by petition. Graduate students' clinical experiences go on a Board spreadsheet, which is due no later than two weeks after each experience begins.

Maryville's current approval, and which Louisiana agencies it names, are questions for Maryville. Because the request lists agencies and units, ask the Maryville Online Clinical Team early whether your intended site is covered and how much lead time a new one needs.

Faculty, supervision and who can precept

Louisiana also regulates the program's people. If an out-of-state program's faculty member teaches in Louisiana, that person must hold a nursing graduate degree and a current Louisiana RN or APRN license, and must have practiced clinically for at least two years. During precepted graduate clinicals, faculty talk with the student and preceptor every week or more often and make a site visit once or more each semester or quarter. The faculty-to-APRN-student ratio has a ceiling of 1:9 for each clinical day.

AANP places Louisiana in its reduced practice category. Each NP there needs a physician collaborator under a regulated collaborative agreement that covers one or more elements of practice. That doesn't stop a Louisiana FNP from precepting you. License, incentives and where to look

Louisiana's date for implementing the Nurse Licensure Compact was July 1, 2019, so an unencumbered multistate RN license issued by your compact home state covers clinicals there. The APRN Compact isn't law in Louisiana. We found no Louisiana preceptor tax credit or grant, so there's no state incentive to mention when you ask.

Louisiana's four largest metros are New Orleans-Metairie, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Shreveport-Bossier City. Large systems include Baton Rouge General, FMOL Health and Willis-Knighton Health, along with LCMC Health and Ochsner Health. Treat these as a map for your search, not a list of sites that take Maryville students; any site still needs Maryville's site approval.
